The Annual Tshivenda Music Awards (TSHIMA) is a strategic platform designedto recognize, promote and reward local artists who pride themselves by singing in Tshivenda indigenous language while preserving the rich heritage and cultural diversity of vhavenda people, an intervention strategically positioned to entrench social cohesion and nation-building, a catalyst that seeks to contribute to the overall growth and development of the entertainment industry in the region.
Launched in 2012, this premium event attracts people from all walks of life, local music industry; artists, producers, the media fraternity, government, academics as well as key stakeholders. With the financial support received from the National Lottery Board, this year’s event promises to be at its best.
While the event was about rewarding those artists who are still active, focus was also on acknowledging those who have contributed to the growth and development of the Tshivenda Indigenous music – the legends.
It’s the celebration of the best in the local industry, it’s our hope that through this initiative the new icons and future pioneers will be unearthed in an attempt to preserve this rich history and musical heritage of vhavenda people.
After 2 years of existence, TSHIMA has unearthed and profiled local artists who are not competing at the national landscape but also the winners on other national events like the SATMAS, SAMA’S, METRO FM Music Awards and the Crown Gospel Awards just to mention but a few…….the signs are already there !!!!.
